Library Newsletter July 2020

Farewell, Miss Melody!

Last month we wished a happy retirement to our good friend and colleague Miss Melody. She has been our Children's Story Time librarian for over 9 years!  Happily, she still visits the library often, and we might even see her guest-starring a Story Time in the near future.

Hello, Miss Bre!

McCall Public Library welcomes our new Children’s Librarian, Bre Anderson!

You may have seen Ms. Bre around town; she wears many hats. The most delicious being her Ice Cream Alley hat! She has been a field instructor at MOSS, a snowboard instructor at Brundage, an educator for the Payette Children’s Forest, as well as an after-school program coordinator through AmeriCorps for the Valley County Extension office. Bre has a passion for science, the great outdoors, and of course, reading!

Patron of the Month
Kim Hamilton

Every summer, BRMES teacher Kim Hamilton brings her students, energy, and imagination to paint the library windows in celebration of our summer reading program. She says, “as a teacher I love to use my June, July, and August to catch up on reading.” It’s not too late to follow Mrs. Hamilton’s lead by spending some valuable summer time adventuring through books! (Sign up to get your raffle tickets in by the end of the month!) Now more than ever is a great time, whether you are a child or an adult, to pick up a book and make an escape into a world of stories. Kim’s two wonderful boys “grew up” in our library, and her parents come frequently for community meetings and book clubs. Thank you, Kim for sharing your family, volunteering to teach art classes here, tutoring young readers in our meeting room, and for being our Patron of the Month! Read on!

Welcome New Library Board Member

David Gallipoli

Welcome to David Gallipoli, recently appointed by City Council as our newest volunteer Library Trustee.  In addition to his interest in reading and photography, David’s experience as a contractor, his prior military service, and his involvement with the Bozeman Public Library and The Friends of the MSU Library will be an asset to the McCall Library Board. “Librarians were my mentors when I was growing up, and libraries are equalizers in a world where inequality has been increasing. I am hopeful we will find a way to make the dream of a new library come true. I am encouraged by the 64% yes votes this spring, and all the private donations that support a new library to meet the demands of our community’s future. I want to be of service to the Board and work hard to make this a reality for our community.”

McCall Library wants to support the McCall-Donnelly School District Trustees, the teachers, parents and kids as we consider the best way to continue learning in a COVID safe environment. We share the mission of life-long learning and we are working on ways to support YOU. These include tutoring connections, technology access, study buddy room reservations, and possibly expanding our after school programs to a limited number of families. Stay tuned—we are poised to quickly adapt and support our community in many ways. Have ideas or skills to offer into the mix?
Give Meg a call at 208-634-5522.

Pop-Up Story Walk

Get outside and go on a walk, a Story Walk!  McCall Library is currently working on a grant to fund a permanent story walk along the bike path behind the library. In lieu of the permanent fixture, we have set up a temporary Pop-Up Story Walk for all to enjoy and envision what the more permanent Story Walk will look like!
