OUR MISSION Enhancing the quality of life for youth and adults, residents and visitors through recreation programs. Provide safe, clean and well-maintained parks, pathways and open spaces which represent the City of McCall, "Idaho's Outdoor Playground"

Welcome to McCall Parks and Recreation

Each year the City of McCall’s Recreation Department hosts dozens of programs for McCall residents, visitors, and the surrounding communities.  In 2018, we had over 1800 registrations for our recreation programs including softball/baseball, youth soccer, mountain bike camp, tennis, winter break field trips, toddler cooking class, Mile High Mile Open Water swim event, Celebration of Trees event and much more.

The mission of our department is to enhance the quality of life for community youth and adults through recreation programs and outdoor spaces.  In order to further meet our mission and set our sights towards enhancing our department to meet the ever-changing needs of our community.

Our Parks Department is responsible for the maintenance of City parks, public spaces, waterfront and swim zones—including the boat launch ramp, City docks and pump station, undeveloped areas and the grounds of City-owned buildings and parking lots.

Additionally, the Parks and Recreation Department staffs the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, The Tree Committee and The Environmental Advisory Committee. We also participate in most McCall Redevelopment Agency meetings, McCall Improvement Committee meetings, Public Art Advisory Committee meetings and Valley County Waterways.

Lastly, we are also responsible for public building and facility maintenance including all public art, downtown seasonal decorations including light pole banners,  as well as noxious weed control along all right-of-ways and City-owned properties, and the management and oversight of the community forest and community forestry program—including arboricultural duties.

Our door is always open to discuss programs, park facilities and more we welcome any suggestions you may have to help improve the department.

Kurt’s love of the outdoors, family, athletics, friends, and a great community have kept him in McCall since 2004.   In that time, Kurt has worked in both the public and private sectors.  Kurt has been with the City of McCall Parks and Recreation Department since 2009 spending two years as the Recreation Supervisor, five years as the Parks Superintendent and City Arborist, and was appointed Director in October of 2016.  Prior to his time with the City, he worked as a Land Planner, Landscape Architect, and Surveyor doing both residential and international resort design and land use planning for Epikos Design and Secesh Engineering of McCall.  Kurt’s passion for the outdoors and a recreational lifestyle stems from his time in Montana where he was born and raised.  Collegiate Athletics and Idaho’s rivers, backcountry, and skiing brought Kurt to the University of Idaho in 1999 where he obtained a degree in Landscape Architecture while running varsity cross-country and track and field for the University.  Outside of work you can usually find Kurt with his wife, two sons, and friends, enjoying the Idaho backcountry, rivers, and skiing.

Tara recently returned to McCall in 2016 and began working as the Recreation Supervisor after leaving a position with the City of Nampa’s Recreation Department as a Recreation Program Coordinator. A few of her goals for the Recreation Department include creating recreational opportunities for both seniors and toddler age children, work to improve the quality of current youth programs and create and maintain valuable relationships with community partners. During her “down” time Tara is busy helping her family, husband, and son, remodel the ugly-house on the block, learning how to Nordic ski in the winter, SUPing in the summer and traveling in the spring and fall. Tara graduated with a B.S. in Forestry & Wildlife from Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM; as well as an M.Ed. Science Education from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.

Edward Heider

eheider@mccall.id.us

Eddie Heider has lived in the McCall area since 2007 but recently made his way out of the backcountry to join us as the Parks Superintendent in November of 2017.  Eddie spent the majority of his time working and living at Pistol Creek, a backcountry ranch along the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.  Eddie also has years of experience working seasonally for the Idaho Department of Lands and logging. Important life changes like becoming a husband and a father brought Eddie out of the backcountry to the City of McCall. Eddie’s knowledge of grounds maintenance and construction skills greatly benefit the Park’s Department.  When not working with the Park’s Crew Eddie spends his time with family, fishing, hunting, hiking, or woodworking. Eddie grew up in Whitefish Montana and received his degree from the University of Montana with a B.S. in Forestry and Resource Management.  He is excited to work side by side with the crew keeping McCall Parks looking great.
