The Streets Division employees are stewards of over 40 miles of City streets, including snow removal, sanding, street sweeping, signing and pavement marking, pothole repair, chip sealing, dust abatement, and shoulder maintenance. The Division also maintains City stormwater infrastructure, including ditches, culverts, and storm drainage piping. Division crews often assist the McCall Police Department and the McCall Fire Department in responding to accidents and other incidents. Crews coordinate with the Idaho Transportation Department and Valley County. They also assist other City departments, including the McCall Municipal Airport and the Parks and Recreation Department.
The Division also manages the use of City rights-of-ways by private entities, including developers, builders, contractors, and utility companies. Administrative staff manages the issuance of right-of-way and driveway permits for construction with the City right-of-way to preserve the public investment in pavement, ensure best practices are used, and coordinate activities to minimize disruption to the transportation system.

Potholes
Potholes are common to McCall due to the winter weather patterns that consist of many freeze-thaw cycles. Pothole formation is more dependent upon extreme shifts in temperature rather than the accumulation of snow. They typically form when moisture seeps into cracks in the road's surface and freezes, causing it to expand. When the ice thaws, that space is left empty and combined with frequent or heavy traffic over the cracks, causes the asphalt to crack and fail.
Potholes are repaired with either a "high-performance cold mix" or "hot mix" asphalt patch, depending on the outside temperature at the time of the repair and the moisture content in and around the pothole. Learn more about potholes>
